Apple shaped is just what it sounds like. It's also referred to as Barrel shaped. The oppposite of these two would be an hourglass figure (not pear).

An apple shaped person gains their weight more in their stomach and not so much in their bust or hips. They can have skinny arms and legs, and they also cannot. As for the width of their shoulder and hips...unlike what someone mentioned, these usually aren't broad. And if they do look broad this means the person is still in their thin stage and haven't gained enough weight for the apple shape to dominate their look. This shape doesn't always occur with overweight or larger people, this can be on skinny people too, and when it is...it usually is referred to as an athletic shape, straight up and down with no waist or hip definition. As the person gains weight, THEN they'll start to take on the apple or barrel shape.

I don't know of any celebrities with this shape, Madonna and Catherine-Zeta Jones DO NOT have this shape, I can tell you that much. But if you see a celebrity with an althetic, very straight shape...chances are if they ever gain weight it'll go to their mid-section and then they'll look like an apple or barrel. This shape is also the most at risk for Heart Disease. An hour glass and pear/spoon shape are least at risk.

If a person has a large mid section with small hips but broad shoulders and large bust, this is not an apple shape as mentioned above. This is called an upside down triangle, or opposite pear shape. An apple shape is shaped like a circle, meaning...the top would be tapered, then as you reach the middle it gets wider and as you reach the hips it again tapers.

Think Rosanne Barr (although the following site also mentions Elizabeth Hurley and Catherine Zeta-Jones as apples). Women with this shape have a higher tendency toward diabetes:

Apple shaped tends to describe women who have wide torsos (full bust, waist and upper back), as they store body fat around the mid section of their bodies (stomach, abdomen and chest). Such women have relatively slim thighs and upper legs. Apple shaped women often have a 'top-heavy' appearance, with a bust and midriff bigger than their hips, a prominent tummy and a flat bottom.
To assess whether you are apple shaped, again measure your hip-waist ratio; if the ratio is greater than 0.8, then you are apple shaped.

The apple, also called a round or cone, is characterized by broad shoulders, wider rib cage, a generous middle, narrower lower hips, and shapely legs. When you look at an apple woman, her upper body looks to be very close in size from her shoulders to her upper hips, with an undefined waist, on thinner legs. Her upper body silhouette appears to be an "apple" on top of her legs.
This does not mean that she is necessarily fat or overweight. Being a body shape does not change from weight loss or weight gain. When apples gain weight, she gains weight in her torso first, and her legs last. When an apple looses weight, her legs slim down first, and her midsection last. A few examples of famous apples:
Madonna
Michelle Williams
Laura San Giacomo

pretty much a woman with this shape gains weight in the stomach area first. They usually have thinner arms and legs but not a very defined waist line. The opposite is an pear shaped woman wear weight gain goes to the hips, thighs and butt. Apples shaped women are more likely to have a heart attack if obese.

Body shape is just one of the factors to be considered when assessing your risk for disease. Other factors, such as family history, tobacco use, cholesterol levels and lifestyle also have to be taken into account. A person who exercises regularly, doesn't smoke, has acceptable cholesterol and no family history of heart disease may be heavier than their ideal weight and still have less risk than a skinny, pack-a-day smoker with high cholesterol.

Try to imagine the shape of an apple in your mind, and you've pretty much got the answer.

Are you referring the the "apple Bottom?" An apple bottom on a girl is a girl with a nice round behind, very sexy, which most men love. I never heard of an appled shaped girl before, I have heard of Pear shaped which means that they are very wide hipped.
