I have to go back and see my doc tomm. hopefully she will give me something to stop the bleeding, this is driving me insane! Not on any birth control as of today.

My sister had the same problem and they did an ultrasound and found that not all of her placenta was removed during the after birth which was causing her to bleed long after the baby was born. Ask your doctor to check it out.

Okay. When I had my son, I bled for 16 weeks after delivery. ( Not trying to scare you! ) EVERY woman is different! I have always had very heavy, long periods, and that makes a difference. After the 16 weeks of bleeding, I had a 3 week break, and started regular periods, even though I was EXCLUSIVELY breast feeding on demand. I breast fed exclusively for 12 whole months and had my period the entire time, so PLEASE don't try and use that as birth control. Things will even out soon. Just be patient, and look at your baby as the reward of all of this!

Gosh the memories! This happened with my first (naturally). I went in for my 6 week check up and was still bleeding. He said my body will regulate soon enough. It took a while I remember. But not sure how long. Most people it is just a few weeks. And I know when I had #2 emergency c/s I only bled for less than a week. Hang in there. I totally know what you are feeling!!!!

I would get a second opinion on that. The only person I knew who experienced bleeding that long ended up with a full hystorectomy (spell??). She didn't stop bleeding and her uterus just never contracted the way it should and she was always in pain. 3 months postpartum (and 3 different doctor's opinions) she had it done. Good Luck though!!

I think you need to see a different gynecologist for another evaluation. What you are describing is NOT normal. This is neglect if your doctor has not done anything about it before now. Some hospitals have nurses who are willing to answer questions (hospital sponsored program). If you are fortunate enough to have this available to you...ask lots of questions and then get the help you need. You may still have a chunk of placenta stuck in the uterus which would cause continual bleeding as you have described. You would need it to be removed for the bleeding to stop. That requies a D & C. Get to another gynecologist.

Did they check your iron count?

Every woman bleeds for a different amount of time, and its usually different with each pregnancy. My friend bled for three months with her baby. Stopped for a week or two. And then had a period. lol.

There is no real set time that your body HAS to stop bleeding. So long as its bleeding and shedding the things inside that it should be, and theres no sign of hermoraging, then its just part of the natural cycle that your body has to cleanse itself after birth.

Ive heard of some women getting a D&C for prolonged bleeding, just to help flush things out a little quicker, make it easier on your uterus to get clean.

I'd ask about that, the possibility of hemoraging, and having your iron checked.

Some times its just the luck of the draw to bleed for eternity, as it would seem :)
