A storage disk which is not part of the Standard computer is a Removable Disk. Example:- Floppy Disk, CD/DVD, Zip Disk or even an USB Pen Drive.

You use it for sometime only and then remove it.
Example:- If you want to transfer files from your computer to another computer, you can use any removable disk

(OR)

To boot an windows/Linux PC , you can use the removable disk.

Hard Disk(Internal) is a non -removable disk.

------
When the disk gets damaged/not formatted , you get the message " cannot use the disk"

Formatting is the process of dividing a disk's storage area into tracks & sectors for easy Read/Write operation and indexing.

A floppy disk can be formatted into a DOS/FAT/FAT32 type filesystem.
A CD uses ISO filesystem.
Harddisks can be formatted as DOS/FAT/FAT32/NTFS -->Windows Based Operating Systems & ext2 & 3, SWAP, REISER FS---> for Linux based Operating Systems..

A removeable disk is any device that plugs into your computer slots like the little USB Ports on your tower, monitor, keyboard etc. That device will then show itself being hooked up to your computer by you looking at your files through "Windows Explorer". Now you can drag files into this device then remove it and take it with you to your friends house and share your files of music, video or whatever. Most people store important files on these devices for safe keeping and for future use in case their computer breaks and then they have them handy!
Hope this helps.

That's just a CD. You get the message when the CD is unformatted or bad, or the drive won't read it for some reason.
