You can also try the keyboard shortcut CTRL+ESC to see if you can get the taskbar back. I have the same prob on my laptop. Some program is not behaving and doesn't allow the task bar to show at times.

When you right click on the taskbar, do you see a check mark beside the "lock the taskbar" entry? There should be one. If there isn't one, check it. This locks the taskbar in place.

It happens with all toolbars.. a Internet war to have the privilege to have the main browser is still keep going...
I have Yahoo toolbar and it happens continuously
You do not need to switch off. Make dowload, once and once again...

Oklahoma-USA has it... also if you have a windows keyboard try pressing the key between "Ctrl" and "Alt" (it has a Windows image on it). This should make your Start menu appear.
