Both of us are adult women and both are straight. She has married recently and moves into another city the first days of january in this same country I want us just to be friends. but i don't want her to misinterpret this at all. i have her email (all of the students had it, i hadn't asked her for it) and wrote her after finishing college if i could write to say how are you and she said she'd glad to be in touch with me whenever i write. she's 29 and me 27. i always wanted to be a friend of a teacher because you could get information and give some of it in return. i lack social abilities and this is why i am afraid because i don't want to spoil things. I sent my friends and her an e-card to say marry christmas, all of them replied me but she didn't , although she read it. is she rejecting our friendship? How can i maintain the friendship and improve it? would it be appropriate to invite her to have a cup of coffee before she leaves? what shouldn't i do to spoil things? thx

No, dont get offended to the fact that she didnt respond to the evite. At least you read it and is aware of it. I would wait till January to invite her for coffee, because it is a little to soon after the holidays. You should graduatly keep in touch with her and have your relationship slowly grow. If you discuss your past relationships with men or current crushes she will not get the wrong idea and understand that is she s friend basis. But remember, dont rush it, just let it slowly grow or you will scare her away.

You have a problem with your self esteem, it is nice from you to invite her something as a farewell, do not be afraid, I have many women friends and they do not think I am gay because of that, it is natural to have friends, so you have the problem thinking only negative about everything, for example she did not have the time to answer your mail, why you should thing negative, ask advice to improve your self esteem and self confidence

Maybe she is just caught up with the holidays and the upcoming move. Also, sometimes you can't be friends with teachers. It's good to look up to her and respect her and even have her as a mentor. Maybe you should tell her those things. Don't take it so personally. It may be nothing against you at all.

you shouldn't push her or smother her. asking her to coffee seems casual enough. seems like she would like to stay in touch. keep it light and casual at first, then you can see if she has an interest in a genuine friendship if she's returning your emails and attempting to spend time with you...
