Gerald Ford was best known as the "accidental president", and the only president and vice president never elected into office. He was sworn in as vice president by Pres. Nixon when VP Agnew resigned. He gave Nixon a full pardon and had to testify in front of a senate sub-committee for his actions for the pardon. He played football for the university of michigan and was an avid golf player.

Yes,I remember him. He brought a calm to the Nation that was needed at the time. He also was respected by members of both parties. He was re-elected 13 times to Congress. He was a WW2 vet. RIP,President Ford. Condolences to Mrs. Ford and family.

Although he may have become president by accident, it was a very fortuitous accident for the US. Because of his ability to be bipartisan, something very few politicians are really capable of, he was able to heal the divisions in the nation after Watergate. So many made fun of him for pardoning Nixon but it has now been recognized as the best thing to do. If the Watergate saga had gone on, it would have caused more damage to the country. He sacrificed his chances of being elected to heal the wounds which, to me, makes him a great man.

Ford was a well-respected member of congress who was tapped to replace a disgraced Vice-President. He was chosen because he was intelligent, congenial and not someone to rock the boat. I don't think he had any clue he would soon be the president himself due to resignation. I wonder if he would have accepted the job if he knew it - or if Nixon would have chosen him had he known.
Still, he was seen as a president who brought stability to a nation in crisis and he was a man of integrity when it was sorely needed. Whether or not you liked his political stances, he was the president we needed at the time.

In 1975, when the killing by Pol Pot in Cambodia started, we sent a night letter (cheapest form of telegram at that time) to the White House pleading with Ford to do something, at least to get the U.N. to do or say something. Ford did nothing and millions of Cambodians died. We lost all respect for him at that time. Good riddance to another useless politician type.

Politically he was a bit bland. I think the worst thing was, he pardoned President Nixon and that was very unpopular. Still, he was a good man, and you always felt that from him. When he spoke, you felt he was sincere about what he said. He was also a funny guy. Just sort of like us I think, that is how I would describe him. GOD BLESS YOU, GOD BLESS AMERICA
