Wow, I feel your pain. I caught 3 (count em...3!) really bad colds during my pregnancy.
The best thing you can do, non-meds-wise, is get lots of rest, drink lots of fluids and try not to cry. Some people like to use a vaporizer or something like that, but I never had one. You just sort of have to soldier through it. It's miserable, trust me, I know...but there's not a whole heck of a lot you can do.
I wanted to add that you should NOT take any medication that your doctor doesn't approve, like Airborne, for instance. I read on there that you shouldn't take it while pregnant. And loading up on Vitamin C may not necessarily be 100% safe.
I will repeat this because it's very important:
Just because something is an herbal treatment, does NOT mean it's completely safe!
Talk to your doctor before you take any meds that aren't on your safe list!
Congrats on your pregnancy and I hope you feel better soon!

I'm on my third pregnancy and have managed to get at least one nasty cold each time. Most important, talk to your doctor about what they recommend you take.
This last go-around, I took Tylenol Cold and Sinus (made me sleepy though). I've heard that you can also take Sudafed and Actifed.
If you are looking for non-medication options, anything with menthol vapors are great. For instance, SudaCare Shower Soothers (blue tablet you stick in the shower) or Vicks Vapor Rub. I believe you can also find vapor products for the bath tub too.
Naturally, plenty of rest and fluids are a must as well. I would also avoid going to work. You may feel like being a trooper and working through it, but you're just going to make yourself worse. Not to mention, pass the cold on to your co-workers.
If you are far enough along, getting the flu shot is a great idea. Loading up on Vitamin-C, not so hot. Anything over 200mg isnt going to do you any good, and your Pre-Natal vitamin probably comes close to that limit.
I hope you get to feeling better.

You can try ten million things, but you will never find anything that works better than saline nasal spray.
Just get some from walmart, blow your nose, squirt it in both nostrils until it runs down your throat a little, and then blow your nose again. Do that about three times a day, I swear your cold will be over in a couple days. Not a week. Plus you get to skip that whole, post nasal- cough up a lung phase.
Ive yet to find anything that works better. And the good news is, saline is just salty water, doesnt effect you or the baby.
Squirt away!

Ya know... I honestly think that 13 weeks is the time to get a cold! lol... I got a cold at 13 weeks!! Do not take medicines besides tynenol and be very very limited with it! Your doctor should give a list of a medications you can take. I just toughed mine out...your babies organs are growing right now, so taking medicines isnt the best idea....

This may seem obvious but load up on Vitamin C. Try to take the tablets if you can as drinking too much orange juice may be too acidic for your stomach. You can try to take vitamin and herb loaded cold fighters such as airborne. Its works best when you take it at the first sign of a cold, but I take it even during a cold to reduce the time I'm sick. Drink plenty of water. Drink green tea or white tea. They are both loaded with antioxidants & have little or no caffeine. Cosult your doctor before taking anything during pregnancy. Good Luck and Congratulations!

Vicks warm mist vaporizor, vicks vapor rub, non medicated cough drops (not the vitamin C drops either) chicken soup, orange juice and SLEEP! I could usually kick mine with those things in about 3 days. Sometimes I would take a tylenol for the headache and junk. Good Luck!

Usually if you call your OB they can give you a list of all meds that are safe to take while your preg. I took tylenol cold day and night caps. That helped me with a lil vapor rub on my chest and plenty of rest. Do not take airborne because it is a dietary sub. You could also take sudafed. Best thing is to just call your OB before buying anything.

I get awful colds too and my sinuses are always blocked. One thing the doctor always tells me is to make sure you drink LOTS of water to flush your system. Also, a good thing to do is to take hot showers to loosen up your sinuses. Or just run the shower hot and let the steam loosen it up.
