My baby Nutmeg is a female mouse and we have had her for several months. She seems to be and extreme escape artist and we have decided to upgrade her cage, while replacing the cage we thought we'd go bigger and also add a friend. Is it possible to add another mouse without having them fight and kill each other? We don't want babies so it would be a female/female pair - I just don't want either mouse getting hurt.

If they are both female, they should get along fine. I have introduced new girl mice to the girls I already had. At first, they nipped a little at each other, but within a few days they were snuggling together like BFF's!

I have mice as well, and it'll be okay to place another female in with her. Just be sure, to extra clean the new cage setup you have, and put them both in at the same time. That way the mouse you already have won't have smells and territorial issues. Male mice when placed together will fight to death, however 2 females should be fine. Just be sure to keep a close eye on them for quite some time, to make sure there is no fighting. Give them both a seperate place to hang out ( inside the cage home ). Good Luck!

I had the same problem when I bought a new mouse (same gender and age) for my old one. My old mouse was very unhappy and hissed at the newcomer, refusing to let her into the house or get a share of the food dish.

I thought all was lost and took the new one back to the pet store. The owner told me to dip a few cotton balls in vanilla extract (I used almond, since I was out of vanilla), and place the balls in the various areas of the cage. By doing so you confuse the scent the mouse used to mark their territory. It worked wonders! My old mouse seemed confused at first, but then she sniffed around and both of them later fell asleep together in the house.

Give it a try. Hope that helps.

Just put them in the cage together they will get aquainted their own way, at first one may seem a bit territorial but this is normal they are social and will enjoy each others territory make sure you have a big enough wheel for the two of them mice like to run in pairs its actually quite cute and not harmful at all .
