The Minimum amout would be $800,000 the maximum im not sure of that

I've worked for the marketing department of a major US studio (WB) so I can tell you a few general things.

1. The publicising of a film occurs pre, during & post-production: as a film can take anything up to 3 years to make, this can mean sustained marketing investment for the entire three years.

2. Publicising a film carries on through the first 2-5 weeks of release, depending on various factors: word of mouth, w1/w2 takings, overall distribution figures etc.

3. Studios deliberately stop publicising their films in the period between theatre and retail release so that people aren't brand-saturated too intensively. Also, non-theatrical spin-offs (i.e. television shows) usually get released at the same time as the retail release, so much of the publicity is indirect through these releases.

4. A film with $4m in production costs is an extremely small budget film and, as such, you would expect its distribution to be very limited. As marketing & PR can only work when the target audience has the ability to purchase the product involved, you would see the figures reduce accordingly. Expect a pre-production budget of -100k, a release budget of between 150 & 300k and an almost non-existent retail release budget (certainly less than 100k). Of course, this all depends on the success of the theatrical release: nowadays, certain films don't even have to bother with marketing - WOM and the internet take care of it for them!

$4M is a small indie film these days. General rule of thumb is one-quarter of the total budget should go to advertising. But that is generally on films with a distributor (or studio).

If you have no distributor, that opens another can of worms and your money should be spent trying to find one (attending film festivals and contests, meeting people, etc.). The key to this business is NETWORKING. It's definately who you know 99.9% of the time!

Your advertising budget will be just like any other business entity. A good rule of thumb would be 15 to 20 % of your total budget.

who the heck knows. i think these celebritys are getting paid too much anyway.i mean a celebrity can make 30million a year and a firefighter would be making like what maybe 80,000. all the celebrities are getting paid 2much except for the so beatiful BEYONCE.
