post office ,banks and government will probably be closed ,along with your trash collectors will probably get the day off.

I don't even think the federal govt is closing!! I work for the US Department of Commerce. Ronald Reagan died on June 5th, 2004 and George the 2nd issued a release closing the govt the very next day. Gerald Ford died Dec 26th and here it is COB the 28th with still no word from the President.

I also second the respondent who said [paraphrasing] 'If businesses don't close for Christmas, why would they close for this?'

No. State-oriented places such as the capitol, post offices, etc. will fly flags outside their places at half-staff.

Why should they close? Hell, if they stay open for X-mas I see no reason for them to close today.
