It is certainly better to never begin an affair than to try to end one without causing a stir.
Depending on the participants, sometimes a clandestine relationship could end simply by appealing to the better nature of the participants. One could say to the other, "look, this was fun; but you know I'm never splitting w/ my family."
But, breaking off a sexual relationship with someone is always dangerous. Egos get bruised, feelings hurt; some people get vindictive and want revenge. Secrets have a way of getting told even when everyone agreed it was for the best to never say anything. That's when the *@% really hits the fan.

The person obviously would not have cheated if they had been happy in the relationship and if they really want to try to make a marriage work, then they would terminate the affair. There is no incentive or reason for the person who is cheating to make a choice if both of the other parties are willing to accept the situation as-is.
It works itself out by one of the parties in the triangle deciding they want out to wises up and ends the relationship or they all decide to stay in the sick, twisted triangle and just accept that is how life is going to be from now on.

Affairs neer just work themselves out. Even if the physical relationship is over, there is always emotional baggage that follows which often times is way too tough to get through for some people. But if two people are willing to try their best to work it out then things truly can work themselves out, with help and lots of counseling.

The one that ends the affair is usually the party that has the most to lose.
People who cheat suck, by the way.

I thnk by just working themselves out, that means, with time it gets easier to make the hard choices and what you really want becomes easier to see. It doesn't just happen, it takes work.
