How do you make a substance with the following properties, especially out of cheap and/or household ingredients?

*Starts as a liquid that you can paint onto a surface (could be stored in a sealed jar)
*Dries once painted onto a surface
*Will slowly dissolve from the surface it was painted on when immersed in water (over a year's time)

Does anyone with knowledge of chemistry know how to put together such a substance?

Thank you

Also, it would be nice if the substance was clear or white in appearance.

how bout water based paints that artists use? i think those would dissolve a bit too quickly...but talk to the artist types, i'm sure they know of such a thing!

alternately, go to a hardware store like lowes or menards or home depot and ask them for such paint.

If it dissolves in water that is no problem, you can simply boil off the water before you purtify it.

Never did I see you stating the liquid had to have a non-tranparent/translucent color. Try salt water if it doesn't need a color.
