Interesting question. In general Muslims are treated better in Canada. As for Marrickville, there are Lebanese there.... LOL but mostly are Christian, you will find more Muslims in other western Sydney areas. But since most Australians don't associate with Arabs they wouldn't know that there are alot of Maronite (Christian) Lebanese in Marrickville. This question is about Muslims, not Lebanese....

Point proven hmm? :) As for Australia.. it's mostly populated by Christians, somewhere between 70-90% and only 1.9% Muslims. If your Lebanese or Arabic people automatically assume your Muslim. Australians don't realize many Lebanese are Maronite's.. and Maronite's are a sect of Catholicism (Christians).

So if the average Aussie doesn't know this, this would tell you just how often they TALK to an actual person whom is an immigrant from any country in the Middle East IN PERSON.

Since the average Aussie thinks... Lebanese = Muslim. Which is not the majority in Australia the majority is Maronite Christian.. just look at the 10+ churches in NSW alone that they have. Which should indicate that they are so racist they don't even bother to ask someone's religion because that would mean actually talking to an immigrant once in a while.

And if we are not racist then WHY was a black student recently murdered - bashed to DEATH in Sydney recently? We have a long way to go before we can live up to the image we have of ourselves being a decent democratic country.

There was an incident two years ago where people cut off pigs heads in Sydney and left them outside mosques on wooden stakes, that wasn't very friendly now was it? There was a few other cases of people feeding pigs blood to exports to cattle destined to go to Islamic countries, that wasn't very pro-Islam either.
The cattle had to be destroyed as they could no longer export them in those few cases. I think this is an honest answer on how differently Muslims are treated in Australia in comparison to UK and Canada.

To be fair I must add that in Sydney you have many Muslim men in prison for serial gang rapes. A few groups in fact have been imprisoned over the past 5 years.

Then you have Muslim leaders in Sydney OPENLY stating that Australian women deserve to be raped because "if you leave MEAT UNCOVERED THE CAT WILL EAT IT" TRUE ACTUAL QUOTE.

Now.. you only get treated how you act.
May I add I haven't seen many Sunni Muslim women dressing decently in the middle east so the Sydney Muslim leaders have no reason to go mouthing off about "UNCOVERED MEAT", quiet HYPOCRYTICAL,.. wouldn't you say?!

Then we have the Muslim elders stating to the government about a year? ago that they will all consider leaving Australia if they don't get treated better etc. The Australian governement failed to comment... there wasn't any "please don't go" statements now were there? But to be fair if you view what has been going on do you realy blame them? This all reminds me of the Pink Elephant... it's in the room... it's certainly making a scene but noone is honest enough to say anything .. let's just pretend it's not there so we can all feel good is the general view right?

In a hypothetical situation, if I an Aussie married a Muslim man and had children and they were also Muslim, I would be the first one to say that Canada and England would be best for the safety and happiniess of the children's future there is no way on earth I would raise Muslim children in Australia I would be worried about there safety every minute, I would immigrate myself to Canada or UK.

I did once believe that Australia was safe for everyone, but I no longer believe it. I have no idea if it will change, but for now I wouldn't even feel safe in my own country if I wanted to convert to Islam I would live in fear if I had to live in Sydney and be openly Muslim.

Hey "Schlangemann" I totally agree with you. And for "NoHalo" woman what are you talking about? If you are treated so badly and having so many problems with the way the good old aussie community is treating you then p.i.s.s off back to where you came from. Today the main roads in Auburn (Sydney suberb) had to be closed because the muslims were having a little cry about Suddam Hussain being hanged. Hey just remember this is Australia you are living in, whats Suddams hanging got to do with Australia?

Muslims living in Australia are the first to complain when one of there own gets discriminated against but dont have a too good memory when white women in Australia are being rapped!

Most of the christian lebanese are fine and dont cause that much havoc but its just a small minority who want to always be the top shots who wanna cause trouble.

I don't know about Sydney itself, but Australia doesn't have a very good track record. If you look at what's being done to the refugees, it is disgraceful and I'm ashamed of it. These poor people have left their countries for whatever reason, and they are being treated as criminals. They have to "PROVE" they are real refugees??? How the hell are they supposed to do this? I don't think the officials of the country they are trying to leave are going to give some kind of document stating "Yes this person and his or her family are "REAL REFUGEES"" Do you? For heavens sake, they've probably escaped with only the clothes on their backs, I doubt they would have any kind of papers on them. And they get here and are put into camps, kept there for sometimes years. This is attrocious, and the Australian government has a lot to answer to on this count alone. Shame Australia, Shame. What has happened to our fair minded spirit? We have become selfish and paranoid.

So what exactly is the difference between Muslims in Australia and those elsewhere? I always thought that it was 'people' we associate with, not a perception of 'who' or 'what' They are. I just looked out the window and ,guess what? Nobody in Marrickville is rioting against some perceived 'Muslim Menace'. Sorry, but for the most part We here in Australia are still just the same people we always were. Must have something to do with living in "God's Country" making Us too laid back to bother with racial, or sectarian,or religious bias or bigotry. Sure there are some who do have an attitude which needs to be adjusted, but, by and large They are a minority (vocal, yes) too small to warrant attention.
I hope that I have answered Your question. Cheers!

Treated by who? The People or the Government?

I myself as a young muslim BORN and RAISED in Sydney love Australia. I dont know any other way of life. And i really don't understand the muslims who come here and complain. We have our mosques that we go to go. Women can wear the Hijab (muslim covering for women) Women are allowed to drive, be educated and vote. I think by the government we are treated like everybody else.

In every country their is a minority that give people of certain races/religions/cultures a hard time...
But as for the people.... hmmm... their is a minority that do give Muslims a hard time. (Yes a small minority that spoil it for others) Speaking from Experience during 9/11 i seen many of my friends with the hijab get spat on, assaulted, punched, hit and many other things. But this doesnt happen often. The majority of Australians are very nice people, open-minded and treat you like they treat others and thats one thing im proud of.

And yes, unfortunately their is a MINORITY of muslims who make us look bad. (INCLUDING THAT GRONK TAJ EL... whatever his name is)
But people don't realise most muslims disagree to the words that come out of his mouth. His an ignorant man. His been in this country for sooo long and still can't speak English, if thats not ignorance then i dont know what is.
And who's fault is that? Who voted for this guy to represent Muslims? I definetely didnt.

Im getting of track arent i? M y apologies...

Ok i think (my personaly opinion- no one has to agree with it) that muslims in non-muslims countries are treated the same as other muslims in non muslim countries... I think every country has that minority, though im not too sure on how different that minority in Australia is to that of London and Canada. I think London muslims were probably targeted alot after the London Bombings.. I hope thats not the case anymore...

Anywayz i hope i could be of some help!

Happy New Year!
