Many cities towns in the United States, in imitation of the famous "ball drop" conducted annually at midnight on December 31 in Times Square, similarly drop items on New Year's Eve as part of local celebrations. Although some of the objects may seem peculiar, practically all relate to some aspect of local history, geography, or culture.

They drop the old year and bring in the new year, plus the ball at times square, and if they are drunk, they probably drop their drawers or maybe their glass of booze. Some people drop a hit of acid.
