Birds do not lay down to sleep. They sit on the length of their feet, snuggled in tight. Some birds tuck their head under a wing, some dont. They sometimes tuck up a leg.
You see a pet bird that appears to be sleeping, for example: laying down, or its head is flopped off to the side.

Yes indeed. I will use a Hummingbird in this example.
A hummingbird transfers food into energy approximately 4 times faster than humans, it takes a massive amount of energy for sustained flight, so they must eat a lot to survive. No birds would be able to survive or fly if they didn't rest. It is kind of like hibernation in bears, their heartbeat slows down, their internal oregens slows down, etc. If a hummingbird did not sleep It would die of exhaustion.

Yes, they sleep, like all creatures that God put on this earth. Some sleep up on a perch, other sleep in caves, nest or on the ground. Some may sleep with one foot on the perch or ground and the other lifted, to protect themselves from predators. Others do it to rest their feet, just like the flamingos do.
