Unless you are from Cuba this question can't be answered. But if you just look at the fundamental idea of Communism it is a Utopian idea. Everyone takes care of everyone else and no one wants for anything.

But in practice it has never worked. Since the societies it is tried in are way to big and the government becomes corrupt and it turns into a dictatorship.

Cuba could work as a Communist country, since it's an Island nation. What it needs to thrive is:

1) the sanctions to be lifted.

2) and to not have another dictator step into power after Castro dies.

(I am also wondering if I'm the only one who noticed how much Castro had mellowed as he got older? He allowed Pope John Paul the II to visit and he even talked with him. So in a way Castro was starting to turn into the man the Cuban people thought he was when he did the coupe to take over the country. Although a little to late for most of the people of Cuba.)

Cuba..

Well imagine if you will that asking questions like "What is life like in America" would get you some time in prison. There is no freedom of speech. No freedom of movement. No free press. You can vote..for the party that is.

My wife grew up in communist Poland. She says that for kids it is basically normal, you don't know anything else. Standing in lines for coffee with the whole family because you can only have one pack. Standing in line for your teacher. The system was corrupt, you could be a doctor if you had money to buy the certifications. You could literally get away with murder if you knew the right people.

But Cuba it would seem it typical of a communist regime. All of the ideology and none of the follow through. Workers of the world unite my butt.

In an ideal communist society it would be peaceful and just. In a place like Cuba that has been starved out by blockades for 40 years it is grim and difficult. The communist vision is for a true democracy, but it has never been tried.
