i have an 80gb external onetouch maxtor hard drive and when i hook it up to my computer which has an internal hard drive and runs windows 2000 pro the computer frezzes on start up is thier any way to fix this so that i can have it connected so that it wont freeze on start up

w2k pro isn't that bad, i'm using it too. your problem could be that you haven't updated it for a long time. in case you haven't done it for a while start the browser, select tools and then Windows Update, then wait and when asked select user defined search. install all important updates and check also "Software optional" and "Hardware optional".
if i remember correctly then it has had once a patch for USB issues under "Hardware optional". install it if it's present in that list.

Windows 2000 is terrible. I hardly know people who have anything less than Windows XP. . . I would go to walmart and buy a Windows XP CD.

About the only thing is to upgrade to XP. 2000 has terrible hardware support.

I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems.
Some drive problems can be easily fixed by yourself using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful. Try this site, if you can get what is required.
