Can a computer make alterations to a file on a DVD-RAM without transferring it to the computers own RAM? I am trying to make a feature-film, but my computer's RAM is too small to support it, so I wondered if a DVD-RAM could back it up for me.

lol DVDRAM has nothing to do with your memory, it just means you can read/write to the disc alot of times and the disc is double sided. RAM in your machine needs to be very fast, hence why you cant just use a flash drive or something like that to act as RAM. You can try increasing your virtual memory size, right click my computer go to properties> advanced > settings under performance and then virtual memory.. Other then that RAM is not that expensive just buy some more..

DVD-RAM is re-recordable optical media and your computer's RAM is memory. Their names are the same because they perform in the same manner but their functions are entirely different. If you require more processing power for your feature film, check the video editing software that you're using. If you're on a network, you may be able to utilize other computers on the network to draw from.

If the computer in basic terms has one slot crammed with ram, yet yet another a million GB stick or ram and positioned that during. no count if that's 2 256MB sticks, i decide directly to propose the two figuring out to purchase 2 1GB sticks for a entire of two GB or in case you're no longer finding to spend that lots, then in basic terms purchase one, for a entire of a million a million/4 GB ram. make certain you in basic terms purchase DDR, no longer DDR2 or DDR3. stable success, HTH

No it won't. A DVD-RAM just allows you to randomly save snd store data to a DVD-RW or DVD-RAM disk. It does nothing to improve your systems over all RAM memory status. RAM stands for "Random-Access-Memory" you might want to go buy a 128Mb or 512Mb DIMM or SDRAM to improve you computers speed.

No - they are totally different kinds of RAM...

Add to your systems RAM or increase your virtual memory (which uses HDD space to increase a systems memory).
