A terrible habit, they spit all over the grass for 90 minutes then at the first opportunity in a tackle they slide over then go looking for it nose down

They think they can get away with it. And they aren't the only ones spitting.Last week, an American Football player was fined thousands of dollars for doing it.

its flem, it just happens, i reckon its got to do with the heavy breathing, breathing in a lot more which builds up mucus in the sinus which flows down the back of the throat, causing us to spit.

It is because when you exercise, your body loses water as sweat. Subsequently, your saliva thickens and so spitting clears it.
