We say that were not racist, but when someone of a different race says something that offends us we make small remarks under our breath or we say it in our heads. Im not racist but i catch myself getting so mad when someone says something racist to me i do think like a racist at times, and i am ashamed of myself for thinking it. Anyone else get like that or is it just me? I mean everyone cant think straight when u get so mad. I bet no one can say i dont think like racist, i love everyone.

I think you're very insightful to be honest... I do have 'racist' thoughts... and I am definitely biased against some cultures... and I tend to associate those cultures with certain languages and skin colors...

Which is insane and lame, don't know why I do it... But I do have a kind of theory - Personally I hate the human race - but I love the individuals that make up that race...

Anyway - frickin' well said...

I guess in some way we're all hypocrites.

I'm not racist, I think a few races tend to fall back on it as an excuse though, and that is getting very old..... I treat everyone the same, and I have always lived my life as there is good and bad in every race... just like there are good neighbors, bad neighbors, good neighborhoods to live in and bad ones... The choice is what u make of it...

The term "racism" and "racist" have been so over used that I don't even know what they mean any more. All people naturally prefer to be with people of their own race and culture, but we should all try not to hate people from other races and cultures.

Many of these problems are the result of the recent fad in Western Civilization of multi-racial and multi-cultural societies. The people who came up with these ideas meant well, but were idiots. You can't force different groups of people to live in harmony with each other.

Most racism is learned behavior. We are sometimes not even aware of how racist we may be for it's programmed into us by our particular cultures and environments. Life should be a constant process of eradicating racism for the disease it is, while also training ourselves to recognize the difference between legitimate criticism of a group and racism. For example, to criticize Israeli aggressions is not anti-Semitic, from my point of view, but to have it labeled as such allows the aggressions to go less criticized. It is always easier to inhabit one extreme or the other--being racist or being so scrupulous about being PC--but the true test of a person's intelligence and good will is discrimination--in the sense of being able to discriminate between and among gradations.

Yea, it's just when you're in a society that here and there has those hints of racism, and then you have extremists who play so seriously on it for so long...you end up succumbing to the sociology and the norm to where you're like them.....it's like if you work with a negative person 24/7, you suddenly become negative yourself because you've been in their presence for so long and although it annoys you, you catch yourself doing it too. It sucks cause you know in your heart you don't care for such feeble and ignorant thoughts, but because of some of the strong impacts it has in its subtlety....it's there.

I find the more i avoid the racism that exists, and the more i get involved with like interracial relationships and mingle with different races, it goes away after awhile, like right now i get it at my job once n awhile, but then i hang out with my buddies who are white, mexican, and korean (interesting enough), and the thoughts go away.

We sure are racist towards basically everyone, even without meaning to be. it's simply human nature to look at different people differently.

However there is a point where most decent people won't go as far as hating someone just because of their race. You are right when you say we think or mutter those sorts of things to ourselves. just don't let it get to you and escalate into violence.

If someone says something racist to you, I think, and I'm going out on a limb here, but I think it's okay to be upset with them, unless you think "Darn _____'s, they always say that" in which case that would be called racism and you would be a closet-racist :) I see people as people; if someone says something ignorant, it's not a group that makes me angry, it's that one ignorant person.

i think everyone reacts in a racist way...doesn't mean that they truly HATE the other race. Racism is when you truly hate another race. for instance....who hasn't been driving and someone cuts them off on the highway and suddenly say...that F'ing _______! that's only because you were pissed off. But if that same person walked pass you in the store and said, excuse me for running into you. You'd just say, no problem. big difference.

I know what you mean but then again I have a control over these thoughts as I am very much down to earth kinda guy and I think of us all as equals despite of race, religion etc. But it is natural to feel offended when someone blasts out at your race. But then again they are just arrogant idiots.

You shouldn't beat yourself up just for thinking something in the heat of the moment. It happens to the best of us. I don't think you're racist, you sound like a good person to me.
