As a realtor, I have all the mortgage companies and mortgage brokers coming after my business every day. I have had a chance to see how almost all of them perform, and when it came time to get my own mortgage, I went with Countrywide. I recommend them to all of my clients. The other one you may want to check out is Wells Fargo. Washington Mutual is also good. Don't let them all pull your credit - that hurts your score. Once you know your score, you can shop the loan with all 3. Get Truth-in-Lending statements from all 3 so you can compare rates and fees. Countrywide will generally match anyone elses if you find a better one. Stay away from the other lenders - the bait-and-switch tactics are horrible and if you have good credit, why make yourself crazy shopping all over the place. Stay away from mortgage brokers, too, unless you have credit issues.
Countrywide DOES sell their loans on the secondary market, as do most lenders. The retain the loan servicing department, so most people don't know that. What this means to most consumers is nothing. The other lenders who keep their loans, like World Savings, are in a position down the road to "re-work" the loan if you get into trouble, but these lenders are expensive.
Countrywide is an excellent lender. Go for it and enjoy your new property.

I have a CountryWide mortgage, which is a very good company. I used to work for the FullSpectrum Lending Division (which is the sub prime side of CountryWide). FullSpectrum Lending is for those who are credit challenged. I would suggest you get a second opinion on your mortgage through Wells Fargo Mortgage (another big lender). Compare the rate, fees and terms (you'd be surprised how much they vary). Ask for a Good Faith Estimate from both companies to compare their products.

We've been with Countrywide, and absolutely YES...resounding YES they are an awesome company. The best of which is they don't sell your mortgage to someone else. They have awesome customer service and some of the best rates.
We always regretted switching from Countrywide to someone else.
Next time we will go back to them!

Countrywide is very good. I would also try ELOAN, Quicken Loans, and Choice Finance. Stay away from Lending Tree, they are not a lender, just a paid service by Lenders to advertise and be part of their "network".

country wide is good, but there are better companies out there, I'm currently have PHH Mortgage, I even got my construction loan with them, few things they do, if you have a quote from country wide, or any other mortgage co. PHH will match it or beat it, they also have corporate discounts, so if you work for big company, you could have 0.5% rebate of your loan amount, which almost your closing cost, you also could close in 10 days if you have everything ready. what I really advice you to is, call more than one company and get faith estimate from each one without have them pull your credit report, because every time they check your credit report, you lose score, so tell them what your credit score is, if you know it and have them give an estimate, look at their charges and compare it, keep in mind, don't compare escrows, because mortgage companies are same with escrows, its your money that you pay upfront. also try to close toward the end of the month as much as you can to save paying interest, last day of the month always best, so give them a call and get faith estimate and see if it works for you or not, here is the number 800-257-0460, put my name as a reference if you want.....good luck
