A PATA dirve is really your basic EIDE HDD. A SATA drive uses different power and data cables. I doubt you can use a standard IDE HDD on a newer SATA HDD. Go buy an IDE HDD ext. USB 2.0 encloseure ($40) at Fry's Electronics and your troubles are over. Also SATA drives here are really cheap now (300 Gb) for $60 new at Fry's Electronics, so you don't have to really do without either way.

you like an adaptor which could cope with a workstation force - they are as low as approximately $20.00 US. you additionally can get a tricky force enclosure which will cope with that form of force. What you're able to desire to know is despite if this is IDE (in all probability based on the age) and that the adaptor/enclosure is in specific designed for workstation drives. maximum adapters at the instant are not for long term use yet will cope with the two IDE and SATA besides as workstation and non-workstation drives. very good for extracting records and making the occasional backup.
