There is no doubt in my mind that pardoning President Nixon was the ultimate unselfish act a politician could make. President Ford knew with that act it would cost him his "own" Presidency... but he also knew it was best for America. He was a great patriot.

It is impossible to say what would have happened had he not taken the step to pardon Nixon beforehand.

It takes a wise man to realize that for the greater good it is best to lay to rest unrest before it has a chance to tarnish a country and its leadership.

I don't think we will see that happen today. At least, I don't think the Democrats will allow that to happen today. Todays politicians could learn a lesson by what Ford did back then.

Nixon resigned because of the fact he "did no longer desire to divide the country"? lol, it grew to become into already divided via the conflict in Vietnam AND his subversion of a democratic election. He end because of the fact he had no selection. Ford could have lost besides. American electorate have been uninterested in Republican dishonesty, and the election of 1976 grew to become into the 1st possibility they have been given to coach their disapproval. Carter grew to become right into a exceedingly good president. He negotiated the 1st peace treaty between the Arab international locations and Israel, and it holds to this present day. Egypt have been a considerable enemy of Israel in the previous that ingredient, and had attacked Israel a minimum of three times. The Iranians took over the U. S. Embassy because of the fact the CIA grew to become into using it as a base. grew to become into Carter incorrect to purpose to maintain spies in Iran? No. grew to become into he incorrect to maintain an embassy open? perhaps, in hindsight, yet as you will see interior the arrival years, this is larger to purpose to maintain diplomatic kin with our enemies than this is to sever them thoroughly. If 585 human beings interior the country had voted in a distinctive way in 2000, could the international commerce middle nonetheless be there? evaluate the large physique of information that Bush skipped over warnings of an impending attack. could Gore have been dumb adequate to try this? i think of no longer. The day after the attack Gore grew to become into asserting bin encumbered and Al Qaeda did it, so even however he have been on the exterior for countless months, he knew what conceivable they have been. could the U. S. have began a conflict in Iraq even however Iraq had no actual skill of attacking the U. S. or Israel? think of with regard to the shown fact that Rumsfeld stated attacking Iraq on the 1st actual cabinet assembly after 9-11 and that Bush grew to become into reading maps of Iraq oil fields basically 3 months later.

When it came to corruption, Nixon was small-fry as compared to Clinton.
(The difference was that the News Media hated Nixon, but they love Clinton.)
