I played football during my junior year of high school. I am now a freshman in college. I wore a helmet which pushed down on my forehead, and furrowed my brow, which makes me look like I am frowning all the time. It is not at all attractive. I want to get rid of it. I thought it would go away with time, but it hasn't. Has anyone had this problem? What can I do to fix this, and get my face back to looking normal again. I would really appreciate it if you could go in-depth on this as I have searched for answers time and time again. Also if you don't have any ideas on what I should do to remedy this, then what type of doctor would I see? thanks a lot.

it depends on how far you are willing to go to fix it. maybe see a plastic surgeon and see what they suggest or maybe botox. i think in plastic surgery they would do a brow lift which would improve it.a brow lift is when they lift only the skin of your forehead. good luck.

Hi FallingTree,

First of all, let me say that your complaint is fairly common and you're lucky, it can be fixed! Because I do not have picture of the site on your forehead I cannot judge the extent to which you will have to go but I do have some suggestions.

First of all, Botox will NOT "fix" your problem. It may be used to help it down the road but Botox, a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, basically works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles; this reduces the activity of the muscles that cause those persistent lines to form. In essence, it sort of "paralyzes" tiny muscles in your face so that superficial fine lines and wrinkles are eliminated. Since you can no longer move these tiny areas, they tend to smooth out giving a younger more youthful appearance. Botox is administered by tiny injections to the site. It can be a little painful though most dermatologists and/or cosmetic surgeons will use a numbing gel so you should feel no pain. This is not a permanent fix and needs to be re-done every 3-4 months. Nor is this procedure cheap, however, the cost must be weighed relative to your expectations.

If your furrowed brow requires Dermal Filling. There are products such as Restylane, Collagen and Hylaform which can be injected into the dented area of the skin. The fillers absorb fluid from the body and "plump" to fill the space. These are commonly used in lip augmentation and to fill deep lines and wrinkles that cannot be smoothed out with Botox. This too must be redone on a regular basis and is not an inexpensive endeavor. Injections of Restylane are slightly more painful than Botox and some require a stronger topical anesthetic or a dental bloc in the case of lips, before receiving the injections.

I would start by seeing your dermatologist. There are wonderful things going on in face and body shaping through the world of microcurrent. I do this procedure and have had extremely successful results! Your dermatologist can either provide this service or point you to someone who can. He can also tell you what he can do in HIS office or refer you to a board certified cosmetic surgeon. Please research both your dermatologist and your cosmetic surgeon wisely.

Aestheticians almost always have an endless list of good referrals.

In the end, you might have to default to a cosmetic surgeon but I wouldn't think so. If you need anymore info or can send a pic, please feel free to email me.

Good luck!

It sounds like a plastic surgeon would be appropriate....to give you a facelift. It will be expensive though !

Happy New Year.
