O.C.D Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, its more common than you think. There are lots of different versions of it e.g you might have to turn the light switch on and of 10 times before leaving a room. But it only becomes a problem when it takes over your life. If you cant leave the building because there are no other doors then you have a problem.

Never had that feeling, all I want to do when I'm in a building is get back out of it and I don't really care which door I leave from as long as I do, some buildings make me feel really claustrophobic, have a great new year.

I've got a friend who has similar quirks.
He has to always turn back around the way he inititally turned round from, other wise he feels 'odd'.
Its probably and OCD type quirk, but if it doesn't cause you problems, don't worry about it.
I've got a lot of obsessions and compulsions, but I just go with them - doesn't make life much harder if I have to line everything up in the correct order, and it doesn't matter if I miss the odd nights sleep cos I'm sorting out other peoples files on the computer and renaming things lol.

I'm not that keen on leaving through a different door! When I got into a place I look and find all the escape points such as windows and doors-just in case I need them- so it throws me a bit if I have to leave through one I didn't know about!

For all who think your theory is rubbish, whenever I have ever been a patient in Hospital, I have always hoped to leave by the same entrance. Those who do not make it usually leave by a door at the back in a little black van. So I definitely agree with your feelings.

I was in a house during the week, and went to leave by the back door, and the woman of the house screeched at me "You have to leave by the door you came in - it's bad luck if you don't!"
That was the first time I'd heard of it - it's a 'piseog' - a superstition, apparently.
Your gut instinct must be right!

It is all in your mind. How do you get on when there are seperate one way in and one way out doors like in supermarkets etc. You can't tell me the stores make an exception to you because of some silly notion you have.

cant say i have .. but usually, the only door to leave via is the one i came in through (so i dont have much option) unless i leave via the emergency exit doors (but then the alarms would go off) and that would mean attention upon myself that i dont need
i embarrass myself enough :P
