The main difference is size. And weight. A notebook can be easily carried around while you'll need a little more strength or bag to heft around a laptop. A laptop is sturdier and, although it can sit on your lap firmer than a notebook, it is better placed on a desk top.
A laptop often has more ports and flexibility than a notebook, hence the weight. This makes it more of a compact PC than a notebook. For instance, my laptop can connect to networks by wifi, rj45 and dial-up which gives me a lot of options to communicate anywhere. I also have audio-visual connections and a couple of holes which I'm not sure what they do. I have an internal dvd and can swap this with a floppy disk drive if I wish.
You really have to ask how much less computer you want to carry around in order to carry the computer around easily.

there's no difference. the term notebook was just created in a certain advertisement and since then everyone's been using it. if im not mistaken, the term notebook was used to make a point about the certain laptop being as convenient as using a notebook anywhere anytime. so yeah, laptops and notebooks are the same its just like what mac has now. macbook.

The same as the difference between a car and an automobile. Different names for the same thing.

Nowt, frankly. It used to be related to size, but the boundaries have blurred. It's now the "in" thing to call 'em all notebooks - mainly because laptops don't actually work to well on your lap, they tend to overheat and overheat parts of the user too!

laptop is actually the old fasioned term, since laptops now get too hot for your lap, manufacturers started describing their laptops as notebooks to stop people filing lawsuits against them.

The functions are the same, or very similar. The notebook is slightly smaller. Therefor your space to use it, and the price is mainly what would dictate your choice.

Nothing at all, just laptops had a name change to enable people to feel as though they can use them other than on their laps.
