I suggest that you try to carryout system restore to a day previous to the day when there was no virus or any problems. It may be a few weeks or months back. You have to decide the date. Detailed instructions are posted at http://fixit.in/systemrestore.html
The problem is likely to be solved. Then,You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at
http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html

If you can't delete a file in "Windows", check (and change if necessary) its properties.
If you still can't delete it, restart the computer and use a bootable diskette with "MS-DOS" os to boot it. Try to delete the file using "MS-DOS" (type "del " followed by the path to your file). If you get an error message, try to change the file's attributes (type "attrib -r -s -h " followed by the path to your file) and try again.

I don't know what your virus exactly does, so I can't tell you for sure if your problem with the 500GB hard drive is due to it. Try again to open the drive after you get rid of the virus: if the problem is still there, it wasn't the virus... That's all I can tell you.

Good luck!

Delete your temporary (.tmp) files. Notice these are completely different from the Temporary INTERNET Files that kids like to delete to prevent mommy and daddy from seeing where they have browsed!

An easy way to delete .tmp files is to use the free CCleaner:
http://www.ccleaner.com/
Click Cleaner, choose Windows tab and check-mark System and check-mark Temporary Files. Then Analyze and Run Cleaner.
