cation is the normal atom of any element but it had removed one or more electrons so number of positively charged protons become more than number of negatively charged electrons so cations have positive charge.

anion is the normal atom of any element but it had gained one or more electrons so the number of positively charged protons become less than negatively charged electrons so anions have negative charge .

it is very simple
anion is negative because anion gain electron(s) if the atom gain an electron than atom will get more negatives and less positives same with cation but cation loses and electron instead of gaining

Cations are emitted from cathodes. Anions are emitted from anodes. Cation and Anion are only labels. They could just have easily been called Beans and Carrots.
