can an i-pod play .mpg files. if not then wht do .mpeg4 files mean?
& also tell me how is the video quality of h.264 which i-pod plays. is it comparable to a dvd quality like or not?

You must be talking about video files because as far as audio files go the ipod can only play aac and mp3 files. I've never heard of an mpeg4 file, but that's not saying much. Go to www.apple.com and read the manual for the ipod video. it will tell you what files can be downloaded. When I googled mpeg4 I got a page from the apple homepage.
