No thats an outdated concept.
Okay everyone waits all year long to pledge thier resolutions. Some stick some dont. There is no special day to make a resolution for change in your life.
If you fail one day you can always do it the next day. The idea is to create a healthy habit. and I doubt that making a resolutions ONCE a year will solve it.
Id Est
You resolve to quit smoking... your good for 2 weeks then you light up (could be anything stress, a social setting with many smokers, anything!). then you get this guilt that you broke your resolution that you made on that one special time of the year. You beat yourself up for failing. So you decide to give in. "Bleh, I already broke it might as well smoke all I want..."
Its a failed pattern.
Dont resolve once a year. Resolve every minute of your waking life. And when you fail thats just a chance to experience starting from scratch and doing it again.
But if you are going to make a resolution this year please note you can have as many resolutions as you can make up. Take this chance to resolve to love a little more. If we could all add a little more love to our lives then this world would be a better place and all it takes is a little more.

I am struggling to come up with any. I don't smoke any more (for at least 1 year barring a cigar last January). My weight has dropped from a BMI of above 30 to under 24 currently. What else could I resolve to do that is within my control, and not outwith my control?
I am also very active, excercising for 1-2 hours every day. The only thing I can think of, is to go skiing at Glencoe and the Nevis range when there is some snow worth skiing on. However, that again is not within my control, so it may not be this year.

I'm going to go back on my healthy eating and exercise kick - I've been off it for a while due to being unwell, and I think I'm just about ready to start again. Basically, I'll do at least 1.5 hours exercise a day, and will eat very little bad fats, no sugar, I'll limit my salt intake, and have no caffine.
I've already given up smoking and drinking. I feel so virtous, how long will it last? Lol.
Good luck with yours!

Although I'm not 'big' on new year's resolutions, I've decided that I'm going to start my essays/course-work well before their due dates. (I'm a mature uni student in the UK.)
Tired of leaving them 'til the last minute! ; ¬ ))
