I've looked at the leagues but I can't see how the positions are worked out - so how does the scoring system work to decide who gets to the Superbowl?
Thanks!
Rod

*The road to the Super Bowl begins with the Playoffs.

*6 teams in each conference, 4 division winners and 2 wild card teams, make the playoffs for a total of 12 playoff teams.

*The top 2 division winners in each conference receive 1st round byes. The remaining 2 division winners play the 2 wild card teams in the first round.

*The winners of round 1 go on to play the bye teams in round 2.

* The winners of round 2 go on the the Conference Championships.

* The 2 Conference Champions play in the Super Bowl.

*** It can be really confusing figuring out which teams make the playoffs because with a 16 game schedule you usually end up with many ties. Go to http://www.nfl.com/standings/tiebreakers for the best explanation of this mess. :)

*** It is also possible for a team with a better record than a division champion to miss the playoffs all together! Bah!

There are playoff teams decided by the best records. The winners of each division get in and then 2 wildcard teams in each conference get in based on the best records. So, conceivably a divsion winner could have a worse record and make the playoffs, while a team with a better record could miss out.. The very best records get a "bye" the first round of playoffs. The other teams are seeded based on their records, with the #1 seed playing #8, #2 plays #7 etc. And they play single elimibnation, one game each week. One loss and you're done until there are 2 teams remaining that play the Super Bowl.

No scoring system is used. Once a game is played, its over. The scores don't carry over. The NFL has 2 conferences. Each conference will have 6 teams that qualify for the playoffs. After each conference has determined a champion through a single elimination playoff, the 2 conference champions play each other for the Superbowl.

There is a system called the BCS. The two teams that have the most players playing in the Pro Bowl play against the top two college teams. The winners of this game have a drinking contest and the winner of that is one of the super bowl teams. The other is always the Arizona Cardinals. The final rule is that Peyton Manning cannot play in the Super Bowl because he is busy filming commercials.

I'm an American living north of London. There are two conferences, American Football Conference and National Football Conference. Each conference has four divisions with four teams in each division. The winners of each division are ranked 1-4 with two wild card teams ranked 5&6. The top two teams in each conference are given a bye to the second week of the playoffs. They bttle it out til there's a winner in each conference. Those two teams play in the Super Bowl. Look for San Diego to beat New Orleans 38-17. Did that help?

Everything the guys before me answered is correct.
Then the game is played, and comes down to what the illustrious John Madden once said:

"The Team that Scores the Most Points at the End of the Game wins".

we are able to not keep in mind that until eventually mid-January. both frontrunners are the Saints and Colts besides the indisputable fact that that is uncommon for both correct communities interior the fall to actual make it to the large Bowl.
