have an amd 1.2gh processor with nvisia video and nvidia mcp contollers. have some brand- unknown- pci device, multimedia audio controller and sm bus controller on system. am running xp pro 2002 edition. have downloaded latest drivers for the video and audio from nvidia. problem is this- i don't have drivers for the three unknown devices. sound on warnings but nothing when i try to play video downloads or media player 11. windows update does not have the drivers for the unknowns and i don't know what else to do. speakers are in acerview 7156a and they were working before i reinstalled xp pro due to update prblems. now they dont work and i haven't a clue as to what to do next. i checked configurations for the audio and everything is good and enabled. could it be midi problem? or what other problems could i be having that i can fix without driving myself nuts. the unknowns are listed under other devices but have no name, just a yellow question mark next to them. anyone able to help me?

checked the driver installations. all drivers for these are installed and functioning fully. error code indicates that the devices cannot be started. they are both ac97 audio device and an ac97 controller (wdm).
the device is from c-media, the controller from via. these are what will not start. should have said this earlier. sorry for the lack of information.

Download the software below that will determine the exact hardware device on the system.

Once you know the device, go to the manufacturer's website and download the driver for that device. Unstall the driver.

Try going to driveragent.com and get it to scan your pc - this will identify the Sound card and other devices, armed with this information you can then search for drivers if you register at driveragent (about 25dollars 15 UK Pound) it will let you download from their site - although once you have the device type & Model you could try getting them from driverguide.com

unknown- pci device, multimedia just install your sound card drivers again from the motherboard cd that will have your sound card drivers on
