With all kinds of average jobs leaving OUR towns and valley's and the cost of health insurance rising all the time ,who is representing the working man in America . The same jobs government employees work at have health ,dental ,cost of living increases and retirement . We have people that love Uncle Sam so much that they retire from one job and begin another . 30-40 years of work and two pension checks . One that starts after the first 20 and then after only 10 you can begin to collect two checks if you like for the rest of your life . Now some would say go get yourself a job like that ,and I remind them that outside government contractors offer even better pay and health coverage and the opportunity for stock options . ALL mind you at tax payer expense . The government broke the Unions and made it sound like a bad word . We can not force companies to stay but we can raise tariffs on all goods made abroad and shipped into America . We can not compete against $1.00 an hour labor .

If we try to compete against this cheap labor our standard of living will end up paying the price .
We can not even educate our kids in America unless they are sent to private schools . Would you take the chance with your kid being part of the high school grads that are functionally illiterate .
IF you are not sure what that really means then maybe you are a victim of the same educational system your kids are in now . So you can read a Dick and Jane book and you see spot run ,but do you have a quality education . DO you prepare your own taxes or complete the paperwork on the sale of your home . Do you often need the help of professionals to assist you in your ordinary day to day life .
Think about it for a minute is your job dependent on information gathered from separate sources with in the same organization and compiled in a format that is simple to understand . If so you are in management . IF you provide information without the ability to put together the big picture your labor

OUR situation is not helped when companies move jobs abroad except for those who have money available to invest in these ventures .Labor is what built America ,and made for a strong family . Dad out building offices schools roads and running sewer pipes ,water , and gas lines to provide homes with the good life . Telephone ,electric and cable to power us and connect us to the world . The cars we drive the stores we shop at the roads we travel and the farms that feed this great nation .
Labor is that force that makes an idea happen .I have an idea ,lets put up a dam to create electrical power , lets put a satellite in space to bounce radio signals around the nation and the world and together America did this and much more .
Now the trend is for those who have some money who worked hard and built America to invest and expand the amount of capitol they have by investing in cheap labor and products to sell to Americans made in foreign countries and this is up to them .

You go right ahead and sell out the working people in America and turn them into service workers Unable to build equity in a home or even buy one .Two incomes instead of one is required to feed cloth and house a family . This trend is not new it has been around now for 30 years . Thats how long it took for dads dad to die and his story of making something in America and how it felt to walk down the street proud to know his hard work was building a strong America for his kids .
What are we making today except inflating the value of currency in order to pay ourselves more with worthless paper when the oil runs out .
We need to get back to work and start building the nuclear power plants and solar energy generating power tied in to nuclear energy to provide power at night . During the day the plants can convert water into hydrogen to fuel cars .Waste not want not .
We became a disposable society lead by our government which is controlled by the rich who have but one goal MONEY MONEY .

No, I would say that many of our citizens are out of control and misinformed when it comes to what the Unions have done for our country..

I am sorry, I have to say that the Unions did this to themselves. They got greedy and lazy. For many union workers they priced themselves right out of jobs. Since when is it a businesses duty to insure the wealth of the workforce over the wealth of their investors?

I am not happy either that the jobs are heading overseas but what choice did companies have when they could no longer remain competitive by manufacturing their products here in the US.

Is the US government responsible, to a point yes. But so are the unions themselves. Even moreso.

I know it isn't a popular answer to your question but it is the truth.

Because we haven't attempted to compete with "cheap labor" our standard of living has already paid the price. It isn't the cheap labor that got us. It was exploiting the benefit packages that unions hand to their membership that got us. Five, six, seven weeks of vacation a year. Five "personal" days. Banking sick days costing companies thousands of dollars at retirement. Wages that are out of control. Health insurnace paid for. Life insurance paid for. Since when is it reasonable for a person standing in a production line to make $25 an hour, insuring that person, time and a half,, double time and in some instances triple time all based on seniority. Union members got greedy. There are no two ways about it. You accuse the government of pimping for money. What do you call what I just described?

I was married to a union construction worker. I KNOW how his union exploited the system. I remember the days he would come home from work because two raindrops hit a quarter on the ground within a five minute period. They shouldn't be expected to work in the rain. All days like that accomplished were rising construction costs and a trickle down effect to the consumers.

I am not putting the total blame for what happened on the workers themselves. All they could see were the big paychecks and I for one also enjoyed cashing those thousand dollar paychecks every week. By the way, One thousand dollars a week wasn't even average and that was over 20 years ago. That was BELOW average. All of that feels good at the moment., eventually we had to pay the price for the greed. Well, its here.

Be careful when you look to only blame the government. Or the companies that have relocated. There is plenty of blame to go around for all sides.

A quote from the ramblings of a great American may give you some insight. And I quote;

Can we get to the point where winning and losing is not the method by which we judge our success .Seems Bush does not want to back-down from this war because he might feel like a failure .In America we all know what a loser is .Second palace is the first loser as many people now say .Competition was suppose to bring out the best in people not the worst .The idea to get out and do the best you could was enough for years .Now people are afraid to do anything they are not already good at for fear of failing .We have become a nation of specialists divided along religious lines political lines and monetary lines that we no longer cross .There is no effort made to understand the views of the opposition .You are with me or against me is just how far things have gotten out of hand .WE create hero's yes but at the same time we destroy and villainies the competition .WATCH today's pep rallies and you will see all the rage and anger that is whipped up against a Friday night football game . It is no longer about the competition it is only about defeating your opponent and celebrating victory .
SO what has happened to America is how we went from competing together for the sport and enjoyment of it to capitalism becoming involved and making it into a hole new game with million dollar contracts at stake , High school coaches that want to ride on the coattails of a star athlete, and profit .
Like they say it is all about the Benjamin's these days and show me the money .YOU have not been a success unless you live in the right part of town drive the right car and your kids must go to the right school in order to fit in .
This is what America has become and until we look back over our shoulder and see what the wake is doing to those behind us we will continue down the path that leads to distruction .
Bush has been raised a winner and his plan will work if you ask him .{Clinton and the other leaders are guilty of this too.}
It has to because anything else is a defeat a loss and he becomes the laughing stock of the world leaders community .
SO he can not back down and he will stay the course no matter how many lives it costs because in his mind defeat is unacceptable and to admit he was headed in the wrong direction and must turn back is not going to happen .
This is what is wrong with and what has happened to america .
SO where has America gone ? Well it is right here right now holding on for dear life trying to keep its head above the turbulant waters stirred up by people who are consumed with winning and making all the money they can at the expense of anyone icluding the family they abandon and ignor except for a couple of hours a month .Here is a new car a new Ipod A new surf Board A new playstation a hundred bucks a credit card a ticket to Aruba for spring break AND then they wonder why the kids are out in bars drinking all night and disappering .Thats because no one cares about them or will listen to what they realy want .Some time to just let you know that as hard as they tried they did not make the team or they just do not get algebra or they do not have the alist kids as friends and feel they are a complete failure and are better off dead .Mom and dad are so busy winning and spreading the values that only winners count that they have forgotten that winning is not important but making the effort is .The kids pay the community pays and most of all when they wake up from the game they have played they pay .NO one is harder on you then you if you have a conscience.
Well i have babbled on long enough with whats wrong and i want to end with whats right .
WE have the ability to raise the brightest kids in america to be the leaders for change in america and the world .We have the best schools in the world air conditioned huge caffiterias indoor pools and basketball courts tennis courts football and baseball fiields And a lot off our kids drive to school and have part time jobs to pay the insurance and gas .We can be the hardest working people on earth and we do have advantages others do not in this world .SO lets agree we can and do have the responcibility to help as many people as we can and not just to become multi millionaires at the expense of others .Winning is great but it is only possible as long as we can all compete and come away feeling better for having tried .

Its not out of control, the problem is the liberals have clouded the real issue. Bottom line is there "aint no such thing as a free lunch". if you want to retun to a land of prosperity people must acquire a fundamental attitude change. Real wealth doesnt come from government welfare, it comes from a job preformed well and a quality product produced. The problem is, to pay for burdensome regulation and unfunded mandates, liberal governemt has raised taxes to confiscatory levels and saddled the average busienss with previously unheard of regulation. If the free market is to endure people must realize that regardless of governemnt intent, we need to be competitive, and we cant do that while legislating all types of perks and venues for workers that the average business is forced to pay for. We truly are a global economy and until the current pelosi..ites wake up and understand that there is nothing wrong immoral or illegal about gving the average worker more back of what they legitimately earn and getting the government involved in less of the free market the outlook will remain bleak. Liberals will tell you the problem is cheap foriegn labor...the real problem is government confiscatory taxation and micromanagement that wont let small business do its job.
