Hello,

My partner and I have decided to try for a baby, Therefore 3 weeks a go I come off the contraceptive pill after 4 years.

I had a period on 10th December 2006 and We have sex approx 4-5 times a week. Is it possible I could of conceived yet? I have used an ovulation calender and it seems that if I have conceived it will not show up on a pregnancy test just yet.

Please advise, I would be so happy if I could hear your stories of getting pregnant straight after coming off the pill.

Thank you and Goods luck for 2007 :o)

Well i was on the depo shot for three years and once i stopped taking it i became pregnant in a year (well 11 months).

You can take a pregnancy test 19 days after the day you think you conceived.

How long does it take to get pregnant after:

Stopping the pill?
Removing an IUD?
Removing Norplant?
Stopping Depo Provera shots?

Certain types of birth control have no apparent delay at all. That includes the IUD and barrier methods such as condoms or diaphragms. We use those as gold standards to compare with others.

Oral contraceptives and Norplant implants -- which are not on the market now, but some women may still have them -- have the potential for a month or two of delay of fertility. This is because the ovary may at first ovulate early or late in the cycle.

And there is a potential for [conceiving] twins in the first cycle after stopping the pill or Norplant because you may ovulate two eggs in the first cycle after stopping oral contraceptives. Six months after stopping oral contraceptives, there's no difference in fertility between women who've gone off the pill and those who have stopped using condoms or diaphragms.

Norplant would be very similar to oral contraceptives. It depends on whether all the Norplant implants are removed, what residual active ingredients from the Norplant remain in your body, and what year it was removed. And it depends on how long the implant was in place and how worn out it was at the time of removal.

If it was removed after having the implant for five years, the return to fertility is fairly rapid, just one to two months. Certainly by the end of six months, return to fertility would be the same as with barrier methods.

Depo Provera is the one contraceptive method that does have a delayed return to fertility for some women. The experts disagree how long it takes, but the range is 3-18 months on average.

But no matter what contraceptive method you are stopping, couples need to remember that it often takes a year for 90% of couples to become pregnant.

In the other 10%, some may have fertility issues. But you don't know until you try. If you have difficulties after trying to conceive for a year, consult an infertility specialist.

It can happen, with my 2nd pregnancy I was pregnant within 5 days of coming off the pill, I didn't even have a period in between times! I only know it was within the first 5 days as they can tell exactly when the baby was conceived at an early scan! It's quite nice to know actually, Good luck to you and i hope it happens quickly for you, I hate waiting for things to!!

I know lots of people who have become pregnant as soon as they came off the pill. Your natural hormones kick it, making you very fertile. It does not take months for the pill to get out of your system. So yes, it is quite possible that you are pregnant already, but you shouldn't get your hopes up too much because even if everything is working just as it should, there is only about a 25% chance of pregnancy in any one month.

You could be I got pregnant with my second just 6 weeks after going off the pill. I took one of those new digital tests 10 days after having sex and it came up positive. The results don't stay inthe window forever though, so if you wanted a "keepsake" test you'd have to get another one. Good Luck!!!

You could definately be pregnant so take it easy and lay off any bad things just incase. You can also start taking folic acid before and during pregnancy this helps fight against spina bifida and others so are good to take before and after conception.

I was off the pill for a while, but it happens differently for all people, I had been on the pill for 10 years so I was worried but it happened for me, so good Luck

Everybody is different, it took me 4 months to conceive after coming off the pill, others get caught straight away, depends how fertile you are.

Hi. The thing is that if u wanna get pragnent u MUST take off pills for AT LEAST 1-3 MONTHS before having sex. therefore I dont think that u get pragnent while u say u havent used pills for only 3 weeks.
