Yes there are many types. Gets awfully confusing, I know. It isn't a matter of 'belief', but what makes the most sense to you personally. I 'like' all the astrologies, but I find the Western Astrology means the most and makes more sense to me, so that's the one I've studied. I've also had a long look at Chinese and Vedic. Chinese Astrology is very deep and complex, but superficially it's mostly about the 'year' you were born in. (that's the type mostly given in magazines etc, but Chinese astrology acutally incorporates the hour, day and month you were born in as well, and puts them into 'temples'. In Western Astrology this would equivocate to the 'Houses'). Vedic Astrology is sort of similar to Western Astrology, but I found it very confusing, that's not to say it isn't a valid form of astrology, just that I personally found it hard to grasp. I know many people who like and some who prefer the Vedic. You'll have to look at all of them, and make up your own mind as to the one that best suits your way of looking at the cosmos. Best of Luck with which ever one you choose.

I don't think it matters. I've done my chart in Western, Vedic and Chinese, and although the systems are different, they all say pretty much the same thing.
Think of them like different languages - you can say "I love you" in English, Japanese or Swahili, and it is all the same thing. Which "language" you prefer will have a lot to do with your background, culture and personality.
To me personally, Western astrology seems the most detailed, logical and flexible and allows for "Western" beliefs like free will and scientific research.
You'll just have to make up your own mind!

I prefer Western with Chinese added. But I wouldn't use Western without doing the entire chart, which is why some people think it doesn't work.

I've followed traditional astrology since I was a teenager, but now I'm also getting into Native American astrology, thanks to my hair stylist. I just found out that I'm a Cougar which I find relevant because I've had a lifelong fascination with these incredible beings.
