The hub will not allow you to share an internet connection between a LAN computer and a WLAN(wireless lan). You have two options.
1.) Purchase a wireless router. Your cable/dsl modem will plug into the WAN(internet port) your desktop PC will connect to one of the available LAN ports, most wireless routers come with a 4 port switch(smart hub) and the laptop will connect through the WLAN. This setup will also allow you to share folders/printers and the router will add one more layer of security because it will hide your internal computers from the outside world. The only thing the internet will see is the router IP not the indivdual PCs.
This setup is call infrastructure

2.)Purchase a USB or PCI wireless network card for your PC. The will allow the laptop to connect to your desktop PC which in turn will allow you to share an internet connection allong with folders/printers. This is called Ad-Hoc

Personally I feel option 1 is better, you get more bang for your buck.

With either setup the network setup wizard and wireless network wizard in windows XP sp2 will walk you through the settings.

GoodLuck

Not very many details but the answer is allways. Simply go buy a wireless router and plug that in in-between the hub and desktop and set it up and you should be golden. You can get one at most stores for like 40 bucks.

Simple answer - Yes

Depending on the make of laptop's wireless connection it should simply be able to search for the hub and connect to it. If it has been encrypted then you will have to use the same encryption key, otherwise no problems (or there shouldn't be).

I have it that way in my home. When my daughter comes home from college, she just uses the same PCMCIA card to access our hub. Enjoy it! you'll want a laptop too.
