toefl is a test to assess your knowledge on the english language. this test is provided to people whose language is not basically english. so to those who wanted to go work in an english-speaking country such as america must take the test to evaluate the person's proficiency in english.. it has alot of benefits for it tests your fluency in the said language and helps you communicate better to people all-around, coz english is the universal language..

The Test Of English as a Foreign Language evaluates the potential success of an individual to use and understand Standard American English at a college level. It is required for non-native applicants at many English-speaking colleges and universities. A TOEFL score is valid for 2 years.

Do you mean TOEFL -- Test of English as Foreign Language
It is a test required to attend college if a person doesn't speak English as a first language. I actually think an English proficiency test should be required for ALL people...even native English speakers as I think a lot of Native English speakers couldn't pass the TOEFL. A lot of grammar there that many people who speak English as a first language couldn't answer.
In a way, the test makes 2nd language people have to be twice as good as a 1st language person in order to pass this test. First language people should be required to pass a language proficiency test too.

TOEFL -- Test of English as Foreign Language.
If u want to get admission into any foreign university in US etc., then u are reqd to pass the abv test .
Yr profiency in the english language is gauzed by it.
