If another browser works, (I would use another anyway), try removing IE through Add/Remove programs in you control panel. If it is IE6 you may have to use the "Remove Windows Apps" on the left of Add/Remove window.
Restart the Computer and then re-install IE, you can download the latest version from the net.
You IE may have been "hi-jacked" on which case the quickest resolve would be to use System Restore and go back to a time when IE worked (This doesn't always work but is worth a try).
Else just forget IE and use a reliable browser, Firefox2 or Opera are very good programmes and fun to use.
You can also try your BT help menu to see if there is anything wrong with your settings but I would doubt it, I always think it best to blame Microsoft first and then maybe someone else.

Well since you say that your BT broadband is working then there could be a network routing problem.....well assuming that your line is in sync with the local exchange and that your router is connected then try these few steps....
In WinXP:
1. goto Start >> Run >> cmd
2. Type in ipconfig.. You should see something like this
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 172.26.0.134
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 172.26.0.1
(not necessarily the same ones above)
now if you see under default gateway, it is something on the lines of 169 or thereabouts then you need to force the static ip address on the computer (refer to ISP support)..
3. Try to reset the TCP/IP stack with
For WinXP ::::::
netsh int ip reset log.txt
For Win2K ::::::
netsh ...press enter
int ...press enter
reset all .....press enter
4. That should solve the problem else try going to
Start --> Control Panel --> Select Switch to classic view
Select Internet Options
Delete the internet files......Delete cookies and under advanced tab there select reset web settings and restart the machine and try connecting again ....this should work.
5. If that fails then try with disabling firewall or antivirus and try again....that should help...

The isuue is probably your DNS Server Numbers - as you can connect to the internet
Go To Start > Network connections > properties scroll down to TCP/IP and right click choose properties then servers
In the following dialog you should see IP Address
and at the bottom Server DNS1
and DNS 2
these should be
194.74.65.68
194.74.65.69

You only need to do a search on here to see how many people are having problems with IE. The best thing to do is download Mozilla Firefox available from http://www.mozilla.com/ Its faster, more user friendly, easily customisable to suit your needs and no problems.
