I don't think the cost of the pregnancy test is the problem. I think these women are, for whatever reason, embarassed or afraid to go to the store and be seen buying one of them. (If you were a teenager who might be pregnant, you just might run into someone you know who will tell your parents.....)

Good question. I have no idea what's going on with that either. Americans in particular keep noting that you can get pregnancy tests for a buck a throw from 'dollar stores.' Here (Canada), the cheapest I've seen is about CDN$17 for a two-pack.
The 'am I pregnant? Here's a pile of information about my periods and sex life. Please be psychic' questions seem to mostly come from people who:
1 Really, really want to be pregnant, and despite 'I bled for four days but I was a day late' want somebody to tell them it could have been 'implantation bleeding' rather than their normal period, so they get a bit of false hope. Presumably more pleasant than a negative test if you're baby-crazy.
2 Really do _not_ want to be pregnant, and are hoping for somebody to say 'don't worry, stress can cause a delayed period,' so they can delay testing and get a few more days of emotional non-pregnancy in, so to speak.
3 Know so remarkably little about conception that I -- honestly -- do not think a trip to the pharmacy has even crossed their minds. You know, the ones who think their boyfriends are doing a great thing by 'pulling out.' I suppose you might not know you could get a test at the pharmacy if you'd spent your life avoiding the condom display in the family planning section...
I do have a wee bit more sympathy for the broke teen-agers not living near American dollar stores, but.

Where's here?
In Australia, you can get a pregnancy test from the supermarket or pharmacy for under $10AUD.
These are around 99% accurate

I was just thinking about your question...and I couldnt help remembering how I always find open and stolen pregnancy tests at my work...It's terriable that people who are pregnant or think they might be pregnant wont even spend the money on a pregnancy test....
Let alone, afford a baby.

it costs between £10 - £25 for a pregnancy test, but you can get cheaper ones that are store branded. I used the asda ones and you get 2 in the pack. They are reliable and gave me the right answer.

A pregnancy test is fairly cheap, $10-$20, and very accurate (99.5%).
