Try doing a cryptic crossword... or consult a dictionary... or submit an article for publication... or convey that you are a worthy candidate in a job application letter... and so on, without being able to spell!
How you wrote your question is a well known 'brain interpretation' phenomenon. A modified application of this is used when motorway/freeway signs are produced in that you do not need to read all of the letters of a place name, only its 'shape' and the first and last letters - it reduces the time one's eyes are off the road ahead.
But in the real world, such a way of producing script - say for a long article or a book - would be agonising to read for any length of time. Conclusion? The ability to spell is still a valuable attribute in the real world. Oh, and so is grammar!

I am one of the old farts who criticise bad spelling.

Amazingly, I found your text remarkable in that I did read and understand it. It's the fabulous power of our mind. Really quite impressive.

However, (there has to be one), when it comes down to detail and precise understanding, correct spelling, punctuation and grammar is priceless. On one occasion, I had to spend the best part of half an hour correcting a technical report before I had any chance of understanding what it exactly said. He knew what he was saying, but it took me ages to understand his report. Not his wasted time, mine. Hey ho....

For some things spelling is not important. I can read things like that, but it's easier and faster for me to read something that is spelled correctly. A misspelled word from time to time is perfectly okay by me, but when someone were to show me this and is a high school graduate, it unnerves me enough that unless extremely important for me to read the document, I just return it or discard it.

I completey understood what i read, and it didn't make my eyes water or anything......

I totally agree with what you wrote, the mind does only understand the first and last letters of a word, but for some people it is hard to decipher....

Happy New Year
