Not many people know anything about the Islamic religion. They think they do, but they don't. They use a few words they think show knowledge, but the vast majority of people stereotype Muslims.
How many people used the word 'terrorist' prior to 2001? Do they think that, all of a sudden, terrorism was born? The only time terrorism was mentioned was in relation to Northern Ireland (a Christian fight, by the way), and it was in relation to car bombs: you bomb my car, and I'll bomb yours. It was tit-for-tat terrorism.
The schools/churches/media in the US have failed miserably. Misinformation is worse than no information at all.

I trust that since 9/11 despite the general lack of education in the world some people have at last understood that Islam is based on the old Christian religion. Racism and ignorance existed in the world both before and after 9/11.I knew that Islam existed and was gradually gaining popularity before 9/11. The last question should read What did you think of it before 9/11. My opinion is similar to that expressed by Mr Barnum- all publicity is good publicity unfortunately.

I do not base my thoughts on 9/11 against the religion of Islam. I of course, knew about the religion well prior to the events on 9/11, but you are correct, it did bring the religion and a small portion of its believers to the forefront of America. My opinion has not changed. I believe there are people in all religions that warp teachings into doing things that are evil. I think the events of 9/11 were outrageous and horrific and no one in our lifetime should have had to witness, however, I do not place blame on an entire religion, only the few that were a part of it, and the few that fully support the events from 9/11.

Yes I did know about Islam my opinion of Islam have actually gone down. This is how I see it with Christianity there have been those that have committed despicable acts in the name of their religion and over the centuries Christianity has by enlarge condemn these acts you might say the religion has matured for the better. With Islam you have a bunch of extremist committing despicable atrocities no outcry or condemnation for corrupting your religion it is like Muslims are at the point where Christians were 800 years ago, they need to grow up and mature. For those that want to see a powerful interview on Al Jeerza TV click to this website and check out the reaction of the cleric it says it all.

yes, I was aware of muslims before 9/11, and knew a thing or to about the Isalmic religion (I won't be arrogant or delusional enough to say I was any kind of authority, but I did know a little about it beyond what I "learned" in school). After 9/11 my opinion on Islam didn't change one bit. To judge and condemn every muslim based on the actions of a few radical individuals' horrific actions would be like stoning every christian I saw because of the actions of the KKK.

Before 9/11 I never heard of Islam, i hear about Buddha, hes a fat boy on a stool that I bought in Japan when I was there, and in Vietnam he is a skinny boy pointing his finger all the time. I heard about Confusios (sp) cause he always says things like "woman who flies plane upside down has nasty (blank) up etc. Before 9/11 I thought islams were like jews cause they all have beards and wear funny little hat, and wear dressess and neither one dont care much about good hams and pork ribs etc. I hope for their sake they like bar b qued chicken, and yes i dont think they cook their black-eyed peas for new years with hog jowls like we do here in Tennersee. In Tennessee they both are always trying to get you to take a lower price for your merchandise, they are tight with their money.

I did. I had been to Egypt, read the Koran, and had a number of friends from the Middle East...long before September 11th 2001.
I have issues with any and all religious fundamentalist extremists.
Wasn't Tim McVeigh also some kind of Christian? I don't see any difference.

? why does every ans before me seem to have a thumbs down sign? nvm..
anyway, islam is not the cause of the terrorists. it is the extremists that cause this misunderstanding.
all religions are created and exist for only one purpose, to help people have spiritual support and comfort in their time of need.
the 911 has caused much damage to america, but that is not one reason to push the blame to islam, the religion itself. if you need a scapegoat, blame the terrorists who started this whole damn thing in the first place.

I would doubt that you will find many people not knowing of Islam. Frankly I do have a different opinion of this religion since 911. Doesn't matter how or why they did what they did on 911, the point is that they killed 3000 people , all innocent in the name of their Allah. Yes, it is the radical fringe and not the majority of Muslims that believe this way. Problem is that why do not the majority put down this faction and also speak out against it in a more vocal way so the world can hear as well as see that a true Muslim does not follow this belief ? Why do they tolerate the continued daily suicide attacks on innocent people ? I have nothing against any religious faith, but, it would be nice if Muslims stood up against these terrorists>

I knew Islam is the religion Muslims believe in. All religions including Islam, I thought, teach us only good then. 9/11 proved that I was obviously wrong. However, I think 9/11 was done by fanatics, who had misinterpreted the Koran, and not the moderates. By the way, I believe racism existed since there were colours. 9/11 only exacerbated it. May God have mercy on us all!
