With the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian empire at the end of WW1, Germany was a destitute country. It was bankrupt, high unemployment and inflation rising to over 400%. People were given their wages in huge amounts daily, because food was so expensive. Chaos reigned.
The German people are a proud nation and Hitler served in WW1 and was decorated twice. He was gassed at the western front and vowed gas would never be used in european warfare ever again.
He was an Anglo-phile. He loved Britain and it's people and architecture he studied art in Liverpool but was rejected. That was all he ever wanted to be, an artist. His father was incredibly hard on him and he died when Hitler was only 3. His mother was his idol, he worshipped her until her death when he was only 8.
The excuse for Germany losing WW1, was the Jews. They were made scape goats for Germany's failings, by Hitler and all the people around him.
He wanted all Jews deported out of Germany and relocated in the east. Hitler wanted to reunite all the German speaking peoples of Europe under one roof and so they replaced the Jews as they were deported.
The German people believed in the Arian race. A race of pure blood and supreme above others. The Jews, gypsies, bolshevics, gays, disabled and mentally ill did not fit in and so were got rid of.
This is an example of HATRED in the extreme. Hitler was a VERY intelligent man. But his hatred twisted him into a very bitter and obsessed man.
See the film "Downfall" it shows a very true and historic picture of the fall of Hitler and the third reich.

He is a great example of what can happen to somebody that gets off on the wrong start. He tried to create a superior race when he himself was kind of a freak of nature. I think the reason he wanted to kill off the Jews was from some fearful twisted plan where he was using folklore and German heritage as a weapon of purity. Quite obviously it backfired as is any attempt to control a population with fear and deep routed hatred. If anything it should serve as an example. The question could be, when does a country or waring faction grow accustomed to killing? In Iraq for example: killing must seem almost like a daily routine. I think when people see death very often they change. They grow insensitive to other peoples pain and suffering. Which in Hitlers case worked to his advantage until they miscalculated. At some point even in Iraq people will realize that the brutal killing could have been avoided. World War 2 started because after World War 1 the world wasn't put back in secure order. Most of the problems we have in the middle east today were started from Hitlers persecution of the Jews because they ended up in Israel. Face it, we could see it again. Because the structure needed after World War 2 was never put in place. Mankind is still working out its growing pains.

He was a great leader. Whoever could get a nation to follow him the way he did proved that. However had he used that skill for the good of the German people and the World he may have been one of the best leaders ever. Hitler and Churchill were the same great leaders only one was right and Hitler was wrong.

Without wanting to condone anything that Hitler did, he must have been a very charismatic man in order to persuade people to follow him. He was an exceptional public speaker and must have been very clever. However, he was tainted and obsessive and ultimately deranged. All together a very dangerous combination. I should imagine that the average German person is not much different than anyone else but they were beguilled by him. There are other leaders in the world who have the same tendencies but lets hope that the sane part of the world doesn't let it happen again. Give thanks that we are able to have free speech.

An Evil Man. The embodiment of Power Corrupts and Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely.
Initially he was probably good for the German people because they followed him en mass and he gave them back some pride after WW1, however the Third Reich had no checks and balances to stop his Megalomania.

hitler, was a man that wanted power; to control everything and everyone; one believes his thoughts came from the pit of hell. So bottom line when one themselves are controlled by evil, then they do evil things; killing is just one of them.

Erudite must be an American. The men and women fought from 1939 to 1945 in the UK.
Hitler was a madman who had millions of Jews and Gypsies slaughtered because they didn't suit his ideals.

He must have been a Jew as the present government in Israel uses the same methods against unarmed Arabs in the Middle East.

He was not a man. He was something else. A demon or an alien or some other like. Nobody knows why he killed so many people. Its just plain hatred. He was an unstable man.
