My boyfriend thinks they didn't cut it so the child was attached for a while. Is that possible? What if no one ever cut the cord, we would all be attached, no war??!!

here is a basic biology lesson... the placenta that the child is attached to is delivered after the child... ever heard of afterbirth?
perhaps they left it attached to the child until it rotted off... most likely they bit the cord off and ate the placenta like mammals normally do...

We would not all "be attached" as anti-war as that sounds, it also sounds a bit stupid. The cord is attached to the placenta, which a woman delivers after having the baby. So, the child would be attached to an organ that no longer serves a purpose, which would cause it to dry up and rot. I'm sure they cut it.

Some anthropologists believe that the cord was bitten through by the mother. In an era before stone tools, that is just about the only option.

this is a guess but I think the cord fell out of the mother and the rest eventually fell off the child. again a guess.

Lick the baby clean when it was born, and chew through the cord, and eat the afterbirth.

Gross as all getout but when it comes down to it, we're just educated animals. No reason why we would be any different from any other mammal that had just delivered.

All I can say is to thank whatever diety you call yours that you don't have to eat the mucky mess!

your boyfriend is mistaken. they did cut it. at one point with a primitive cutting tool like a sharp rock. before that they used their teeth like all other animals do.

They bit it in half. They ate the placenta. I'm not trying to be freaky; it's just the way it was.
