I have read somewhere that a horse is the only animal that knows when it is going to die. Is this true? And what if it is going to be killed? Would it still know then that it is going to die?

M'am, all animals know when they are going to die, but only if they are sick or getting weak. If someone's going to kill the horse then no, they have no idea. Horses aren't the only one's that can do this. Even humans can.

I have had aged dogs, cats, and horses in the past. All of them, when their last days were on them, seemed to want to go off somewhere by themselves and be left alone.

As for knowing it going to be killed, I don't think it would *know* it was about to die, but if the circumstances were stressful (going to the slaughterhouse for instance) I think the animal would feel a lot of fear as a result of the unfamiliar surroundings, people, smells, sounds, etc and that could easily be confused with thinking it "knew" it was about to die.

The horses doen't know when is going to die. But I am pretty much sure the horse knows once he smells and detecs danger, blood, etc. For example, horse slaughtering. Because they hear the other horses scream, and smell the blood and danger, it's pretty obvious they know their death is near.

Strong question by the way =(

I think most animals know when they are going to die. If you are referring to the slaughterhouses, yes, they know that they are being slaughtered and they don't want to die. They try very hard to avoid the person with the boltgun.

Yes, if it is due to just getting old.. they definitely know when it is time.. some will even borough down into the ground.. like under porches and such... . animals have a sense that humans simply do not have.

Is it called the sixth sense?

I am interested in knowing when it knows that it’s going to die so that I can avoid riding him that day. Who knows, that it might want to give me a mighty kick before it kicks the bucket!!
