Do not give your six week old baby water! Only milk! If you give them anything but milk right now it can fill them up and they won't take their milk properly. I hope you are joking, but seriously.. do not give them anything other than their formula/breastmilk!!!

A healthy 6 week old doesn't need to drink water, whether you're breastfeeding or using formula. If you're using formula with iron, especialy Enfamil Lipil, and your baby becomes constipated, you can give an ounce of water a day...no more than one ounce in a 24 hour period...to help loosen things up. Babies are delicate and their bodies are so much smaller than ours that they can't handle much plain water. I read before in "What to Expect the First Year" that they can actually get water poisoning.
If your baby has diarrhea and you're worried about dehydration, give an oral rehydration solution (like pedialyte)...but if that's why you're trying to give water, you need to take baby to the doctor instead.

Is she refusing to nurse or drink a bottle too? If so take her to the ER immediately. She will dehydrate quickly. If she is drinking her formula or nursing properly that is justs fine. As long as she is getting plenty of fluids. Babies that age shouldn't even be given water, she needs to fill her belly with the nutrition in formula or breastmilk not water. A baby that age doesn't need any water. Get a book on what to expect the first year and educate yourself on babies.
Again I repeat if she isn't drinking any fluids get her in to the ER NOW

Your infant most likey doesn't have a taste for it. At six weeks is it healthy to drink water? Most of the nutrients they need come from formula or breast milk. It is their only source of food and water would be very lacking, considering water doesn't have much to it and isn't considered food to the body where as formula is.

A 6 week old doesn't need to drink water. They get everything they need from breastmilk!
PS If you are formula feeding, there might be something in the water or the temperature that she doesn't like. Try luke warm water and a different brand/filter

Babies don't need water at 6 weeks. If your baby is drinking breast milk or formula as normal, there is no problem.

Give the baby milk or formula. The baby does not need extra water if they are taking in enough formula.
