My friend explained that there is a cable from every country connected to the the World Wide Web Server.

I find it hard to believe. I thought it is by Satellite!

Can Anyone explains how "WWW" works.

Which genius invented it? How come he is not as famous like Bill Gate?

The information is being transmitted over the telephone lines and now cable as well. It didn't take a genius to "invent" it. Once we were able to transmit voices by means of telephone wires, information was the natural progression.

There is no "World Wide Web server" any computer connected to the Internet can act as a www-server. WWW was invented in Switzerland in the late 80´s by Tim Berners-Lee an british scientist.
