I agree that laws do not always guarantee justice, or that many times, even if justice is served, it comes too late. But think about it this way: what would happen if there were no laws at all? Would you, or everyone you know, still continue to do what's "right"? Laws may not always be effective, but their mere existence prevents many people from indulging in wrongful behaviour, and keeps society safer.

Law is important as it sets the 'community guidelines' for what is considered 'right & wrong' for everyone to comply with.

The problem is not the Law itself, but the people who both interpret it and sit in judgment of others. The Lawyers are a profession and a very lucrative one at that. Frivolous lawsuits have crowded the courts to overflowing. People will sue over anything as a means to get paid for an real or imagined problem.

What we need is a way to screen out the BS that is over-burdening our legal system. we also need a harsher set of consequences for those that feel they are 'above to law'.

It's not a guarantee, but hold people to do a lot more bad things because you know that if you are caught you probably go to jail or worse.
