Calling Junk Mail, "Spam", has probably hurt the sales of spam because it has given the word a negative connotation.

I like this question.
Can you imagine all the people who get loads of junk mail, get annoyed by it and then one of their friends buys them more in a can as a present. "look more spam". I think it could only have helped. Do people still eat it? It used to be typical C-rations rubbish, fine if your starving.

I would guess that it does more harm than good. Look what happened to that slimming course called "Aids", they went bankrupt within a year of the discovery of the other Aids.

probably neither, since,

1) both are cheap

2) noone asks for it

3) it's there when you don't want it

4) and both leave a bad taste in your mouth.
