The best card is one that appeals to the person receiving it. Use whatever craft materials you have on hand. Do you have any dried flowers? Keep it simple. Too much embellishment won't make it more appealing.

Here are some directons on making your hommade birthday card:

Materials:
One sheet 8-1/2" X 11" cardstock; white
One piece 4" by 5-1/4" double sided pattern paper
6 mini brads
4 1/2" punchies; we used the square
glue
Tools you'll need:

Cutter or scissors
word processor; we used MS Word

Directions:
Step 1: Printing Out the Card.
You need to set your page to landscape, which means the paper is held horizontally. For MS Word 2000: File -> Page Setup -> Paper Size ->Landscape.
Format the page so it has two columns. For MS Word 2000: Format -> Columns -> Two.
Set the bottom margin to 7". Just slide the margins on the left. Insert a Text Box across the bottom middle of the first column. For MS Word 2000: Insert -> Text Box.
At the bottom type 'Wishing You a Happy Birthday' in the Tinker Toy font at size 26, font color matching your pattern paper.
Copy text and paste a second one in the other column at the bottom, so that you have two.
Check the print page set up and make sure the text boxes are centered in their columns, if so, print out.
If not, go back and center, then print out.
When it is printed out cut the paper in half so that you have the two cards as shown.

Step 2: Attach Pattern Paper.
Attach the pattern paper using the small hole punch and two mini brads at the top of the card front.

Step 3:Fold Pattern Paper.
Fold the patterned paper up so that you can see the print out of the words underneath. This fold should be about 1/2 inch in width.

Step 4:Glue Glue on punchies to the fold.
Glue on punchies to the fold. Then punch a small hole in them with your small hole punch. The small hole should go through the pattern paper twice, but not the card front.

Step 5: Attach Mini Brads.
Attach the mini brads through the small holes in the punchies. Enjoy the card.

u can make creative cards with pencil shavings ,u can make flower designs and do some light background shadings. But to make it u hav to be really careful not to mess even though it is not a messy idea. u can cut the edges of the card making it curly and make the inner part of the card with a little pop-up .u do it by sticking two papers together with the outmost paper popping out.Actually i am sorry if u dont get me coz i cud hav made it more understandable if i cud show it to u. u can even decorate the front part with some beads/glitters if u are really creative. these things r not costly and designs like flowers or hearts etc wud look nice. And the most important part of a card which i believe is the wordings inside ,coz the most sweetest words pays the whole thing off.The words that are written inside is something that makes a card the most creative one. Hope my methods help u......!!!!!
