What does this have to do with newborns and babies?
I always take Nyquil, but I don't recommend taking it now that you've already taken benadryl.
Make sure your bedroom is neither too cold or too warm. 65 to 70 degrees is a good temp. Lay down and try deep breathing. Lay on your back and breath in real deep and exhale slow, over and over.
This always relaxes me so much that I fall asleep before I know it.

turn off the TV and the Computer and get rid of all your distractions. RELAX
and if you must take something yo can try this really great product by Tylenol called Simply Sleep
it doesn't make you drowsy the next day --it's great for the OCCASIONAL sleepless night.

Put on a comfortable/favorite tv show/movie at low volume (just loud enough so you can hear what they're saying but wouldn't wake you up).
It is harder to keep your eyes open when you want to it seems than when you want to shut them. So don't force your eyes closed... let them get heavy by themselves... then just decide you'll turn away from the TV but you'll still listen... I mean... you wont fall asleep....................... zzz...

Lie down and read with soft lighting. Sometimes you just can't sleep - you'll make up for it. This way you're at least resting your body and brain.

Turn of the computer and TV, read a book slow down your thoughts, and then when you get in bed close your eyes and DON'T open them! (unless you HAVE to) It works for me.
